The band - in all its Reflejosy goodness
Reflejos brings a fresh, new sound to the Melbourne music scene and is made up of many members from all over the world. The band was founded in Montreal, making it’s way through Central and South America and eventually finding itself in Australia. The music is inspired by ancient legends and spirits that are found in pre-colombian societies and traditions in Latin America. Therefore cultivating a mysticism in each song that engages the audience and leaves room for reflection.
The music of Reflejos uses poetry to engage the spirit and to convey a social message. Bonnie is a nomad and finds herself in many countries creating, composing and singing. She has studied music and voice in the United States, Canada and Australia; forever attempting to discover new ways of expressing herself through music. The cultural exploration and the love of language lets her delve into different traditions that influence the sound that Reflejos create. The exploration and mysticism create a sense of “journey” throughout the music.
The band experiments with traditional Latin American rhythms and interprets traditional songs, inspired by many innovative artists and poets, along with their original compositions that have been inspired by many journeys. The vocal harmonies evoke a soulful sound. The band also loves to improvise, it’s Jazzy influence permeates through the solo performances that embraces the art of spontaneity.
The members of Reflejos: Bonnie Smith, Luis Escudero, Denys Dufrense, Michael O’Connor, Ryan Griffith, Elise Winterflood, Corey Romeo, Gustavo Moreno. They are from Australia, Chile, Colombia and Montreal.
They have played many festivals in and around Melbourne and continue to perform. They have toured in Mexico, Cuba, Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, Chile, United States and Australia.
The motivation of the group is to not only to create beautiful music, but to also connect with humanity in a humble and authentic manner.
